preamble

PREAMBLE

The Ministry of Economic Development was created in April 2005 as a result of the split of the former Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

The Ministry's main role is to spearhead the transformation of Zimbabwe into a highly developed economy through:

· formulating, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the National Development Plan,

· monitoring and evaluating the performance of economic sectors and, in liaison with relevant ministries, recommend appropriate policy interventions,

· coordinating the implementation of the Macro-Economic Framework beginning with 2005-2006,

· coordinating the development of a comprehensive Macro-Economic Modeling Framework for the economy,

· reviewing and updating Vision 2020 and

· formulating, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of a National Manpower Development Programme consistent with vision 2020.

The ultimate objective is to play a central role in the transformation of Zimbabwe into a highly developed economy through the effective exploitation of its natural endowments.

The Ministry of Economic Development's Strategic Plan ( 2006 - 2010 ) therefore encapsulates the vision, mission, values and work programmes to be followed in the execution and attainment of its core business.
